DESCRIPTION

COMING SOON! Currently under construction, this renovation of a 1960s mid-century modern home aims to update the interior to better fit the lifestyle and needs of a couple welcoming the arrival of their first child. The project’s open interior layout and the colour choices all aim to optimize the natural light of the bright, short days of northern BC, where it is located. The project’s main focal point is the kitchen, which is reoriented around a large, existing skylight and completely reconfigured to provide maximum storage, integrated appliances, and tons of counter space. White tall storage cabinets retreat into the kitchen's perimeter and incorporate an inconspicuous laundry room door, a wood finish on the island, peninsula and shelving lend a furniture-like feel. In the living room, a new steel hearth extension and fireplace surround with integrated log and media storage has a curved end to minimize sharp corners with the owner’s young child in mind. A partition wall is removed to convert a previously-unused room into a bright lounge defined by a custom built-in bookshelf and record cabinet that incorporates a structural post and echoes the same curve as the hearth extension.
